Ideally I wanted the sitemap to update dynamically, changing instantly as I make structural changes to the website. They call this a 'dynamic site-map' and it is typically php driven. I wanted it to be in xml and html, html for my visitors, xml for the robots.


One way automatic sitemap updates can work is like this: Within your sitemap.htm/xml file you would insert a php include such as "include_once('sitemapmaker/file.php')" that calls a php file, which when called analyzes your website and outputs the sitemap.

There are allot of programs out there like this, and some are better then the others.

So in my search I came across this: XML-SiteMaps.com

They have a free online site-map generator and a pro version of the software that can be purchased. The purchased version works like I want, being that it can update your sitemap in real time as you make changes. But the free on-site generator is operated manually and will not auto update your sitemap. For now, this free version is good for me.

• This program analyzes the meta-title of each page it analyzes and uses it as a the link text.
• It generates an html version to integrate into the website, providing a wealth of relavent keyword content, and it generates a xml version that "Google bots love.":/)... so I read somewhere.
• It allows you to set-up spidering frequency, informing the spiders how often you would like them to crawl you're specific pages--- But be honest on each page, I imagine that Google Inteli Bots may notice that you never update your Contact Page, and then begrudge you for telling them to visit daily. I have a feeling that the standard Google is imposing on us all is one that measures application integrity.
• It also allows you to set the 'priority' for each page, which I'm not too sure what that means yet.
