I had some trouble with the animated gif I imported into flash not wanting to show as an animation when I exported the swf. This was a due to my lack of know-how, and here is the solution.
Prepare a frame for your animation. Create an symbol. When that symbol opens up into your workspace, go to file>import>import into stage> and select your animated gif.
Flash will then import the animated gif, and create bmp instances of all the animation frames. Within the symbol editing workspace, you will also see that Flash has automatically created a frame for each instance within your workspace.
Now that you have imported the animation into your symbol, set the frame rate of the animation to what you desire. Return back to your scene editing workspace, and drag the newly created symbol from your library onto your workspace.
And there you go!
Now when you export your swf, your movie should properly show your animation rather than just showing one single frame of your animated gif.
w00t! yay! the coders found a new way to say HUURAHHH.
//below writeup is for the search engines- ignore the nonsense
tutorials that try and get you to use the ifFrameLoaded loaded function. The program because its for some different version of Flash. Documentation may tell you that it's depreciated, or only works with actionscript 2.0, stick it in a class, but still, for the sake of simplicity we are going to ignore this. Also this._framesLoaded didn't work. documentation. should be a filter. CS3. CS4. love you good day.
