Flex the tech and roll. This is a documentation.

Today I have been researching 'SEO Landing Pages' because I wanted to find out more information on how to make my website's landing pages as powerful as possible. One example LP that I am working with targets the keyword phrase 'postcard printing'.

Notice I have set up the landing page as http://www.postcardpros.com/postcard/printing.

I got this idea from the website Zazzle.com, who is ranked #2 in the keyword 'custom postcards' and number two in the keyword 'custom t-shirts'. The URL structure of each landing page was like this: zazzle.com/custom/postcards/ and zazzle.com/custom/t-shirts.

In the end I thought this might be a bad idea on my part to emulate their strategy. They have multitudes of pages that they store in the /custom/ directory, whereas I only will have one.

If directories work anything like h1,h2,h3 tags-- then the parent directory will be to the h1 tag as it's child directory will be as the h2 tag. When analyzed, my directory structure creates an outline, and relating this back to how I have handled my landing page, this might negatively affect the comprehensiveness of my outline. Or it might not!

So I have my landing page to be http://www.postcardpros.com/postcard-printing.php.

"But for now, I want to see if there is any special power in the directory structure I have set up"

No, there isn't. The only tiny tiny benefit you might get from it is if people link using the URL as the anchor text -- then any keywords in the higher level folders will act as anchor text keywords.

Can you explain what you mean by landing pages a bit more? How are they powerful?

What I mean by landing page is a page that is specifically designed to target a particular keyphrase.

But its hard to get Google to do exactly what you want sometimes, and you might build a landing page, so to say, only to have google send people to a different page.

Either way adding the content to your website will help ramp up your overall content relevancy to the keyphrases you want to target.
